In 2025, in the Chinese Lunar calendar, the Year of the Snake is about introspection, strategic planning, and personal growth. You are encouraged to take a step back and reflect on your lives, goals, and aspiration, becoming more attuned to your inner self, leading to greater self-awareness and personal development. The Snake's influence promotes careful planning and strategic decision-making. The Snake is known for its wisdom and intuition. Its energy can bring new opportunities, especially those that require careful consideration and strategic approach. The Snake's ability to navigate through challenges with grace can inspire individuals to do the same.
Delta's Chief Constable Harj Sidhu, who spoke to Ladner Rotary members on February 11, 2025, was appointed to his position in November 2024. He is the department’s first South Asian Chief Constable. He started his career with Delta Police Department in 1993. His appointment to the top position from within the department is less usual generally for police departments in appointing their Chief Constables.
He has a strong commitment to collaborating with the community and stakeholders, working together to problem solve issues, and create solutions tailor made to Delta, and presides over the department’s “No Call too Small” approach over policing.
On a winter vacation in the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa, Mexico, earlier this month Ladner Rotarian Denis Denischuk came upon a prominent boulevard sign with the Rotary Wheel, with place and time of the local club meetings (seen in photo). By wondering around the commercial district of Ixtapa Denis found the club's own air-conditioned meeting room. Of the 13 members in the club, six were on hand at the evening meeting to greet him warmly, some in English and some in Spanish. No dinner was served, just some savoury snacks, water or white wine.
BC Women's Health Foundation Manager, Engagement Cheryl Gipson spoke to Rotary Club of Ladner members about the importance of women's health, largely overlooked in the past, and current fundraising priorities for the Foundation and, in turn, BC Women's Hospital.

Building peace requires thoughtful, sustained efforts and meaningful partnerships, Rotary International President Stephanie A. Urchick told attendees at a peace conference in Istanbul. The presidential conference, held 20-22 February, focused on “Healing in a Divided World.”
“Our time together here is a testament to our shared belief in the power of peacebuilding,” she said. “But let’s acknowledge something essential: The act of ‘Healing in a Divided World’ is not something we can achieve quickly or easily. It takes an intentional commitment over time.”
