Kids in The Philippines happy with cleats and books from Ladner Interact high school members

100 pairs of soccer cleats, which members of the Rotary-sponsored Interact Club at Delta Secondary School collected over several months by early this year, have arrived to the delight of children on soccer teams, whose families would not be able to afford them, in the community of Panglao, The Philippines. At left, boys are happy as they try on their new soccer cleats. A collection of books for children, also collected by the Interact Club, have arrived in a separate shipping container along with used medical and dental equipment, sent from this region's Rotary World Help network, and will be distributed to schools in the area.

"Serve to Change Lives" -- Rotary's purpose and action
Wow is a word to describe the achievements of Rotary in this region and around the world in making the world a healthier, safer, happier and more productive place to live and work. District Governor of the 49 Rotary clubs, from Metro Vancouver up the coast to Prince Rupert, Lorne Calder, visited Rotary Club of Ladner with Assistant Governor for South Delta and Richmond Dean Hseih on November 2, 2021. Lorne was the Chief Finance & Risk Officer for Integris Credit Union in Prince George from 2014 until his retirement in 2020. Prior to that, he served Integris predecessor, Prince George Savings, as Chief Financial Officer for 22 years. Lorne and Dean, with Sue Calder, Lorne's wife, view one of the stations along the Ladner Rotary StoryWalk trail for children and families. -- photos by Chris Offer

District Governor 2020-21 Dave Hamilton named Delta’s Citizen of the Year
