Irene is happy to announce that overall Jody's participation in the Rotary Artist Exchange went very well with some minor hiccups. Jody had 3 weeks of bliss and had an excellent main Rotary host Mike Frolich looking after him. The total overall experience was positive and Jody will be incorporating many of his New Zealand experiences into his future work. For the most part, all went as planned and Jody will soon be visiting our club to give an overview of his trip and will bring a sample of one of his recent carvings done while in New Zealand.
Family of Rotary: Ron Bollen's wife Susan had another serious fall and that is why Ron cannot attend today. David Rushton is continuing his cancer treatment and appreciates hearing from members of Ladner Rotary.
President Lynn is happy to announce we have a RYLA South candidate chosen, Chu's daughter Patricia. And our club has nominated Scott Andrews for a World Peace Fellowship scholarship. President Lynn and Leo attended the Foundation Seminar on behalf of the club while Guillermo attended the District Assembly, all three were stimulated in different ways. Our district has been chosen by RI to be a pilot district for the new Future Visions program. The Future Vision Plan is designed to:
- Simplify Foundation programs and processes consistent with the mission of The Rotary Foundation
- Focus Rotarian service efforts where they will have the greatest impact by addressing priority world needs that are relevant to Rotarians
- Offer program options to help achieve both global and local goals
- Increase the sense of ownership at the district and club levels by transferring more decisions to the districts
- Gain greater understanding of The Rotary Foundation's work and enhance Rotary's public image
Don is pleased to announce the Fraser Health Authority has stepped up with financing for the materials to build new planters and add perimeter fencing around the utility area of the greenhouse at the Extended Care Unit patio/garden area. This means our "hands on" project can continue with limited cash expense to our club, we just need the man power from members. Irene is planning on another Rotary meeting at the ECU now that the weather is improving. This patio/garden improvement started with a shed floor replacement and has grown exponentially with others stepping forward once they had seen what the Rotary Club of Ladner was doing. Great work Don and crew!
Guillermo will be leading an Education Night sometime late in April. Irene would like feedback from the club, perhaps the topic could be Chile. Anyone interested needs to contact Irene so this can be organized.
April 24 is the Rotary Youth Awards evening and Peter has asked for good representation from our club. This is an excellent evening and a great opportunity to see some of the youth rewarded for their community involvement.
