From early explorers, Alexander Mackenzie and Simon Fraser, to BC's first Governor, James Douglas, and industrialist Robert Dunsmuir, among many, the Scots played a key role in putting BC on the map, literally as well as figuratively.

Scottish Highlanders as drivers of economic and social development in the British Empire has been a focus for some time of Dr Katie McCullough, PhD, an Assistant Professor of History and the Director of the Centre for Scottish Studies at Simon Fraser University. But now she is focusing her research on the impact of Scots in her home province of BC.
