Classification talk Sonia Baron

Sonia was born and raised in Saskatchewan. She quipped that her family was so poor that they could not give her a middle name.

 After she married she moved to California where she spent most of her young adult life. She is divorced and widowed.  Her family consists of 6 adult children, 3 girls, 3 boys and the proud grandma of 4 grandchildren.

She joined Rotary in 1992 as a member of the Kelowna Rutland Rotary Club, District 5060.  In 1994 she was the District 5060 Public Relations Chair and in 1995 Conference Promotions Chair.
In 1997 she led a GSE team to South Korea.  In 1998 Sonia moved to District 5040, North Vancouver Rotary Club, served as Promotions Chair for Conference 2000.  She served as Governor of District 5040 in 2005-06.

Sonia worked as a researcher with the University of Victoria on prison education and then for 8-1/2 years with the Correctional Service of Canada, providing academic and vocational assessment of incoming prisoners. She was an academic advisor to Open Learning Institute for social and geographically isolated persons. Sonia has spent more time in jail than most convicted prisoners. After her time with corrections she was hired by ICBC. For 15 years she worked in public and community relations management with the ICBC.
Sonia is active in the Canadian Legion and for several years has successfully run the annual poppy drive for the Wally Branch in Surrey. She spends a lot of her time in California and travelling.
