The Rotary Club of Cavancha (Chile) received an important and valuable international medical help.
A forty foot container, filled to the brim with 311 items of medical equipment weighting fifteen tons and valued at 500 million Chilean pesos, (1 million USD) arrived from Vancouver, BC, more specifically from the Rotary Club of Ladner and the Rotary World Help to the Rotary Club of Cavancha, (Iquique, Chile), with the financial support of:
- The Rotary Club of Ladner
- The Rotary Foundation
- The Rotary Worl Help
- The Rotary Club of Burnaby
- The Rotary Club of Gibsons
- The Rotary Club of West Vancouver Sunrise
- The Rotary Club of Mount Maunganui, New Zealand
- The Rotary Club of Cavancha, Iquique, Chile, and
- Private donations
Among other things the container carried electric and manually operated wheelchairs, walkers, canes, 26 hospital beds, an incubator, stretchers, crutches, mattresses, geriatric chairs, medical scanners, dental chairs and dental equipment, medical equipment (surgical masks, lab tubes, medical books, vials, gloves, syringes, bandages, etc.)
We must emphasize that a first similar container from Vancouver arrived in 2002 and a second one in 2006, bringing much needed help to the community.
This cooperation among Rotary clubs was spearheaded by District 4320 PDG Alberto Chong, a renowned gynaecologist and president of the District Rotary Foundation.
The container left Vancouver a month ago, arriving recently to Iquique. The contents will help people most in need, health centres and medical university centres.
This shipment emphasizes our motto “give to others before thinking of ourselves”
Signed
Roberto Varas, President
Cavancha Rotary Club
