Melissa Lowe, Manager, Corporate Communications for Delta PD and a member of the RC of Ladner was our speaker on July 2.
Melissa outline the business crime prevention initiatives the department has underway and the partnership with the Delta Chamber of Commerce.
Business Watch: The program's focus is to aid in the identification of any potential criminal activity local businesses may encounter and assist in the development of crime prevention strategies.
The Community Police Station volunteers meet with business owners and employees to provide specialized information regarding counterfeit currency, credit/debit card fraud, scams, theft, vandalism cybercrime, robbery and workplace safety.
Fraud Awareness and Prevention Outreach Program: On request, the Economic and Technical Crime Unit will visit local groups and businesses to provide resource materials and presentations
Crime data: Delta Police Department carefully examines the number and the types of calls for service it receives. The statistics provided in the Crime Bulletins are derived from PRIME (Police Records Information Management Environment) and compiled by the Criminal Intelligence Section to identify problems and priorities as part of our Intelligence Led Policing process. Crime maps are available on the DPD website: http://deltapolice.ca/crimereports/index.php
The Monthly Crime Bulletin provides an overview of the types of incidents that Delta Police Department encounters and the numbers may change because of late reporting by victims, or, as investigations progress, the initial offence may change and additional offences may be discovered. The crime maps depict the locations of crime activity. We are providing these reports for the past 12 months.
Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) program. This program facilitates cooperation between developers, builders, municipal planning department and police to prevent diverse problems by planning the physical design, layouts and location to eliminate or reduce opportunities for crime. The officer sits as a liaison for the Delta Advisory Planning Commission and the Advisory Design Panel as well as reviewing development and building applications.
