DSS Interact Supports Womens' Shelter
Busy school year for DSS Interact Club
Students in grades 8-12 at Delta Secondary School in Ladner have been active this year with the Interact Club, supported by the Ladner Rotary.
Interact’s mandate is to perform school, community and global community service – some of our initiatives this year have been to participate in the Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-Up, organizing a huge clothing drive for Big Brothers, a successful hot chocolate and baked goods fund raiser for “Food on the Corner” , explore volunteer opportunities with "Reach - Child and Youth Development Society" and cleanup of school gardens and public spaces.
During the month of May, Interact students successfully collected a variety of small consumable items and donated them to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Shelter in Vancouver. Interact’s goal was to collect specific items such as Travel sized shampoo/conditioner/soap, hand lotion, tooth paste and toothbrushes, hair brushes/combs, new makeup and/or perfume samples, hand/face wipes and hand sanitizer. Womens' clothes were also gathered and donated to the shelter.
Our Interact students would like to thank the staff of Delta Secondary and local retail stores, pharmacies, hotels and dentist offices who were able to donate items on our list. All items were gathered, nicely packaged and then delivered to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Shelter on May 23, 2014.
