Rotarian Ed Klassen has been on a humanitarian assignment in Serbia and Montenegro

He attended a Rotary meeting at a club with 52 members. They were chartered in 1929, but closed down when WW2 started in the 40's, and Rechartered in 1992.

Profile of Serbia (Yugoslavia) The "Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes" was formed at the close of World War I in 1918 from SERBIA, MONTENEGRO and remnants of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was named Yugoslavia, "land of the south slavs", in 1929 to reflect the union of the often hostile ethnic groups.
In 1991 Croatia and Slovenia declared their independence, followed in 1992 by Bosnia-Herzegovina, initiating a series of brutal wars with the Serbia. In 1992, Serbia and Montenegro announced the formation of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia as successor to the Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia. Ethnic Albanians who make up 90 percent of the population of southern Kosovo province are seeking independence.
