Susan LaRosa was the Director of Education (or Superintendent of Schools) for 15 ½ years in the York Region Catholic District School Board - a medium sized board north of Toronto in York Region, Ontario. She certainly had to manage rapid growth: in her District, 36 new schools were built during her tenure. She shared a few strategies she employed with her leadership team to move the District from "death threats to hugs ".

Susan's emphasis on whole district learning resulted in increased student achievement. During her tenure, the School Board became one of the top performing districts in the province.

Susan was one of the few Directors of Education to achieve her Masters of Business Administration (MBA), rather than an education degree, which contributed to her success as a leader.
