On April 1st the speakers were Brenda Casey and Rick Llewall. From ICEF (International Community Empowerment Foundation). ICEF is currently centred in the southwest of Uganda, in Masaka District, where they manage the Tekera Resource Centre (TRC) and contribute to the welfare of 30 orphans cared for in the Nazareth Children’s Home.
At TRC, they provide primary and adult education, medical and dental care, economic empowerment opportunities, clean water and skill-building to nearly 8,000 persons living in and around Tekera Village. The Tekera Resource Centre has a unique model of development that has been effective in empowering the local communities by providing vital services in which the community is a firm stakeholder.
Currently, our work is centred in the southwest of Uganda, in Masaka District, where we manage the Tekera Resource Centre (TRC) and contribute to the welfare of 30 orphans cared for in the Nazareth Children’s Home.
The Nazareth Children’s Home is primarily supported by international NGOs. However, ICEF Canada has undertaken to offer assistance (specifically with food and medical care) for the orphans living there, as well as support/guidance for the two devoted live-in housemothers.
As of January 13, 2011, ICEF Canada became a registered Society (S-57702) under the British Columbia Society’s Act. They are hoping our charitable status will be approved in 2014.
