Update on joint projects with the Rotary Club of Mt Manunganui, New Zealand

Robin Bly from the Rotary Club of Mount Maunganui, New Zealand spoke on September 16, 2014. He gave a brief updated on joint projects between RC of Maunganui and RC of Ladner.

In 2010 then President, Robin Bly of the Mt Maunganui Rotary club asked whether our Club would like to join with Mt Maunganui in a Water Supply project in Vanuatu.

The project involved the purchase and installation of 2 water tanks at a School on the Island of Tanna. This is a Mission Station, and the School had around 250 Students and no water supply. At that time they were at the stage of getting some firm estimates for the supply of the tanks which then need to be shipped to Tanna, where they would be installed on a tank stand, with guttering to supply the tanks with rainwater, and some basic pipe work to provide drinking water to the students. They hoped that the project would continue to be carried out by the Mission staff who are generally well able to be self sufficient in carrying out these type of projects.

A sister club relations was established between Mt Maunganui and Ladner

As a result:

  • We have had two rounds of Rotarian exchanges
  • We have has two rounds of grand-children exchanges
  • One First-Nations artist exchange

Joint projects:

  • We collaborated in the Temuco-Norte water project in the First-Nation community of Colpanao
  • We collaborated in your shipment of hospital material to the Cavancha Club in Chile, after the lquique earthquake

Robin then presented a slide show of his tour across Canada and the USA. He hit all the major sites in the two countries in his motor home.
