KPU – Kwantlen Polytechnic University – an update.

Our own Jeff Norris was our keynote speaker on March 11 2014, he is Kwantlen Polytechnic University's chief advancement officer. Jeff is also the executive director of both the KPU Foundation and Alumni Association, and oversees the university’s external and government relations.  He was recently recognized in Business in Vancouver’s 'Forty under 40' for 2013-2014.

His professional success is in the numbers. When he joined KPU six years ago, the university’s foundation was raising six figures annually: Under his supervision, this past year alone has brought in almost $17-million in revenue and pledges. During his time at KPU, Norris has increased revenue year after year by at least 20 per cent. In 2007, when he first started, the largest donation in the university’s history was $133,000: Most recently, he helped secure a $12-million gift for the Chip and Shannon Wilson School of Design, which will be Metro Vancouver’s future hub of fashion and design, at KPU Richmond.

Jeff is currently working on attaining his MBA from the graduate school of business at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University has been serving the Metro Vancouver region for 30 years, and has opened doors to success for more than 250,000 people. Four campuses—Richmond, Surrey, Cloverdale and Langley—offer a comprehensive range of sought-after programs, including business, liberal arts, science, design, health, trades and technology, apprenticeships, horticulture, and academic and career advancement. Over 18,000 students annually have a choice from over 145 programs, including bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates and citations.

Kwantlen College was formed in 1981, by a separation of the South Fraser campus from Douglas College. Kwantlen Polytechnic University is a public degree-granting undergraduate polytechnic. KPU is one of the largest institutions by enrollment in British Columbia with 20,000 students at its Surrey, Richmond, Langley and Cloverdale campuses combined.
Prior to being granted authority as a University college in 1988, Kwantlen was founded as Kwantlen College. In 2008, the Provincial government announced its intention to amend the University Act at the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia to make Kwantlen University College a Polytechnic university. The legislation renaming the University College to University received Royal Assent on May 29, 2008 and KPU began operation as Kwantlen Polytechnic University on September 1, 2008
