Maraea Timutimu on the run!

Thankyou so much Ladner Rotary for bringing a new chapter to Maraea's life. It is a month she will never forget.
A few years ago, Ladner hosted several Mount Maunganui Rotary Club members and their spouses. It was the first time our club had done such an exchange, and it turned out to be a very successful event.
Several other events have also occurred with the Mount, including them hosting our club, an international humanitarian event in Africa, a grandchild exchange, both outgoing and incoming. This year, we had the cultural exchange between Maraea of the Mouri ancestry learning about our aboriginal culture and art, and outgoing Jody from Tsawwassen who will do likewise next year when the Mount hosts him.
When this idea was initially floated, I ran it by Irene and, as only Irene can do, it was taken care of. She put her head down and made this not only an event, but an amazing event for Maraea. The month of August, 2009 was a month Maraea will never forget. For those that did not see her agenda, here is a first blush.

Never mind all the amazing local events and cultural experiences, thanks to the Hayward's kind donation of the airfare, and to the Strang's for coming up with idea in the first place and setting it up, Maraea was able to go to the Queen Charlotte Islands and spend time with the renowned April White, and witness her art and the culture of the First Nations in that area.
I cannot thank all of you enough. Thankyou for making a difference in Maraea's life. She will never ever forget this experience. All you went ABOVE AND BEYOND. Rotary, once again, has been the conduit to open doors of opportunity to those that otherwise could not have had this experience.
