Mike Storey walked during The Weekend to End Breast Cancer

Every Step Brings Us Closer to a Cure.....
Our own President, Rotarian Mike Storey participated on August 19-21, in the "The Weekend to END Breast Cancer". Thank you to everyone who donated and supported MIKE's fundraising effort, making the weekend a success!
Here's the letter Mike sent to thank you for your donations:
Hi there,
Thank you! Thank you for supporting my journey. Thank you for supporting BC Cancer Foundation. Thank you for recognizing that the fight against breast cancer continues. Thank you for your donation - your gift will help save lives. You can read more about The Weekend to End Breast Cancer and the efforts your donation goes to support at www.endcancer.ca.
With your help, the Walk to End Breast Cancer in Vancouver raised over $5,000,000 for breast cancer research this year. This is the second year for this walk and with this money, BC Cancer Foundation was able to bring Dr. Sam Aparicio to Vancouver, a world reknown specialist in the field of cancer, for research on this disease. They are making inroads & now have purchased a new tool for early diagnosis, a digital mammography unit. It is the very first unit in British Columbia, which is already helping to find more cases of breast cancer that could have otherwise gone undetected. That will mean saved lives with state-of-the-art equipment made possible by the walkers and supporters of The Weekend to End Breast Cancer. Without your generosity, none of this would be possible.
The weather was great all weekend and I was able to finish the walk early both days, no blisters. But I was sore a little bit which I expected walking 60 km at a good pace. The majority of walkers taking part were female, many were breast cancer survivors or were battling the disease. Some of the the stories told were heartbreaking. There were 300 less walkers this year which was expected as Washington state now has their own Walk to End Breast Cancer. There was room for more walkers and I hope next year, that more men take an active part and join the Walk to End Breast Cancer.
A good friend of mine had his daughter pass away this year after a long battle with breast cancer. She was only in her 40's. She left behind a husband and two young children. My real estate agent who sold Kathy and I our home also passed away a couple of months ago from breast cancer. This disease is striking women of all ages, young and old.
So I have decided to walk in next year's Walk to End Breast Cancer. I thank you again for supporting me this year and hope you will consider supporting this very important cause when I walk again in 2006.
Sincerely Yours and
With Great Thanks,
Mike Storey
