Team dreams of clean streams: Following Don Burkett’s plug for his team I found this gem in our RI weekly update. It is certainly an example that we can emulate. The banks of the Sacramento River are a tangle of unwelcome plants. The Allied Stream Team of the Rotary Club of Redding Sunrise, ( the club’s environmental committee), is hard at work since 2000 supporting wildlife and removing invasive plants. “The crying need for restoration of our natural habitat was much larger than picking up discarded coffee cups and Coke bottles,” says the organizer. T he team’s work over the past decade is estimated at $1.4 million, based on government calculations of the value of its completed projects. The 50-member group does not work alone. Some projects – such as the annual Community Creek Clean Up Day – draw hundreds of volunteers, including Rotarians from other clubs, Interactors and Rotaractors, college students, and people responding to newspaper ads.
Elections Canada is still looking for people to staff the polling stations. Also, all political parties are looking for volunteers to be scrutineers, drive voters and distribute materials. As good citizens, we must become involved.
The Roberts Bank lifeboat was the subject of last Tuesday’s program.Chris Scurr, Ladner Travel Agent extraordinaire, explained the many roles of this small group of volunteers that assist vessels, the Corporation, the Police and Fire Departments in insuring safety and compliance in our waters.

Guess who’s coming for dinner will take place at two locations this coming Saturday: the Strang’s and your Supremo’s place. Both hosts are fond of good Single Malt.
There is still time to join the Rotary Friendship Exchange with D7490 (northern New Jersey) Sept. 7 to 21. This District is very close to New York City which is a great destination. John Thomas was congratulated for his generous donation to Delta’s Gymnastic project, but his appearances in the paper are far from matching those of Tsawwassen’ Lesley Abramson.
Novel fundraising initiative: Roy and Myrna Sakata are off to Las Vegas trying to gather funds for Rotary by playing the poker tables. Maybe it will work!
New member proposal: Linda Ottho, President-Elect extraordinaire has proposed Cindy Chong, a young Graphic and web designer and fundraiser from Tsawwassen. Linda made the announcement at Tuesday’s meeting and Peter published a ban on Thursday. On the subject of new members, the Board will consider Constable John Smith application for Honourary Membership on Monday.
