Olympic Experiences with Paulette
Paulette gave a very detailed description on her work assisting the delegation from Monaco including many pictures. As part of her duties, Paulette accompanied members of the delegation to events both in Whistler and Vancouver. It all started about a year ago when the volunteer application was filled out. Paulette wanted to experience a "cultural exchange" during the Olympics, a "trip inside our own country". Paulette wanted to represent Canada, particularly BC and specifically Vancouver as Paulette was born and raised here. Paulette completed National Committee training, and after that, a job offer came while her and Guillermo were in Europe. Paulette accepted the job offer and it actually morphed into International Client services. Paulette would be working with delegation including association heads and possibly the president of Olympic committee for Monaco. 8 days before Olympic, duties assigned. 3 days before the Olympic, her list of contacts included the secretary general of Monaco, president of the Monaco Ski Federation and president of the Monaco Bobsleigh Federation. It started with 3 days basd out of the Marriott downtown, then it was off to Whistler for the rest of time. Wonderful experience, meeting lots of different people. There were many trips back and forth between Whistler and Vancouver including 2 hockey games in Vancouver, alpine skiing events & ski jump events in Whistler. Monaco is very active in the Olympic movement with Prince Albert leading the way. A reception was held in West Van with the Honorary Consul of Monaco including Prince Albert. Paulette also chaperoned a group from Monaco to a visit to the Lil'wat Centre in Whistler.
