The Otter District Farmer's Institute was incorporated in 1922 with twenty-five members to promote agriculture and agricultural knowledge, to work for farm legislation to improve farm conditions and to buy supplies at cost for its members

The aim of the Institute was to improve conditions of rural life so that settlement may be permanent and prosperous.

Since the 1930's the Institute had run a general store and supplied feed to local farmers. On June 22, 1979, the Institute became a co-op.

Consumers Co-op was formed in 1930 by Finnish immigrants who had originally settled in Sointula, on an island off the coast of Northern Vancouver Island. Later, in search of work, they came to Webster’s Corners in the Maple Ridge area.
