Participant Chosen for 2009 RYLA Lakelse

Here is some information from Riley's application for RYLA Lakelse:

What do you hope to attain by attending RYLA:

I would like to further develop skills I have acquired such as teamwork, communication, problem solving and responsibility. I would like to build my self confidence and leadership skills in a well established environment with like minded people.

What activities/achievements (ie; volunteer involvement, clubs, etc.) have you completed that are related to leadership?

I have been a member of Girl Guides for the past 7 years. During this tirne I have enjoyed many great experiences and. built strong relationships with peers and leaders I know through Girl Guides and Girl Guide related activities.

I have earned a considerable arnount of badges through completion of their specific requirements. In addition to this, I will also be receiving a Canada Cord, which is the highest possible award one can receive within the Girl Guide association, for my many demonstrations of leadership, enthusiasm and participation in activities aud volunteer work.

Examples of the volunteer work I've be involved in includ.es helping out at the local hospital with their annual "Delta Hospital Light the Way" which happens during Christmas festivities. I've also been to Gleaners and helped prepare food which is then canned and shipped all over the world to less fortuate people.

In addition, I have entered essay contests, one of which was "Police Officer for a Day". I wrote an essay on why I wanted to be "Officer for a Day" and out of all of the students in South Delta, my essay was chosen and I was "Officer for a Day''! It was a very interesting and exciting day.

Another personal goal I achieved was last year during my English 8 final exam. I received the highest mark in my grade when I attained a score of 99%
