Paul Kariya, Clean Energy BC
With discussion of BC Hydro's Zone C dam, the need for this province to avoid importing power, our relatively strong advantage in terms of cost of energy, green biz and the opportunities to take advantage of the many independent power producers in BC, Dr. Paul Kariya gave an informative presentation at the Ladner Rotary Club on September 21, 2010, "Clean Energy Development in BC - Why it Makes So Much Sense."
Dr. Kariya, who is Executive Director of Clean Energy BC (formerly the Independent Power Producers Association of BC), spoke about BC's tremendous opportunity to develop clean energy resources which can help us reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and also fuel our economy with investment, jobs and revenues. Along with opportunities however there are challenges. Dr. Kariya talked about the wide range of technologies, such as geothermal, wind, small hydro, bio-mass and other fuels, state of development of the energy industry, potential for growth and concerns for First Nation and environmental stewardship issues.
