President Mike Storey had happy dollars for a tremendous Foundation Dinner event on November 18, 2005.  Neall Lucente had sad dollars.   Neall arrived early to help set up the Foundation Dinner and volunteered throughout the evening.  He was having such fun trying to keep up with Leslie Abramson but got kind of tired.  He decided to go for a little nap in his car.  Neall was awake by a mall security guard at 2 am.  Everyone was gone!

Visiting Rotarians and Visitors:  Rotarian Cindy Phillip of the Tsawwassen Club joined us, Honorary Rotarian Linda Ottho also joined us for lunch and our Guest Speaker was Spencer McDonald

 

Family of Rotary:  Chu Wu is fighting a cold, Barry Madden and Bill Bramwell are still recovering from infections but feeling much better, Jim Burnett is on the mend.

Mel Baly is in California on business, Lynn Cameron is continuing her vacation down south, Michael Cruise is overseas, Irene is on one of the Gulf Islands, Kelly is away for a two week vacation, Walt Hayward and Graham Witcher still on their cruise, Ed Klassen is in the Palm Springs area, Peter Podivinikoff is still overseas and Tracy Yolland is still on a company training course

Barry Madden is happy to be feeling better this week than he was a week ago

Brenda had lots of happy dollars for her California tan and for spending 3 ½ weeks in Carlsbad.  Brad had happy and sad dollars for a Victoria trip for his Dad's surgery, an angioplasty procedure is turning into a bypass operation


Cindy Philip had happy and sad dollars for being able to attend Colin Philip's Maui wedding but it meant missing the Rotary Auction this year.


Malcolm Ashford had happy dollars for the 11,000 votes he garnered which was 187 short to get elected but 20 more votes than the previous election, so in 20 years, he should make it. 
Don Burkett had happy dollars for a fishing trip he went on with 4 lawyer friends, 1 from Kansas, 1 from Nova Scotia. It was a successful trip with 14 sturgeon being caught'

had happy dollars for the Sunshine Coast Rotary TV Auction; they raised $47,000 from a base of 9,500 cable subscribers


RI Foundation Dinner Thank You: Leo wants to thank everyone in the club for supporting and making this event a big success, especially Debbie Dasilva, Neall Lucente, Denis Denischuk, Chu Wu, Tom Siba and many others who pitched in and helped.  We have leftover beer not returnable (less than full cases or cases that have been opened, anyone wanting to purchase, see Mike Storey after the meeting

 

Report from Denis on Rotary Calendar Sales: Sales teams are being organized for every Sat at Tsawwassen Safeway and Ladner Save On locations.  The morning shift will go from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, the afternoon shift from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. This week, we have Art Birk, Linda Ottho and Thom Wright selling in Tsawwassen in the morning and we have Don Burkett, Jim Burnett and Art Birk scheduled for the afternoon.  In Ladner at Save On Foods, we have Brenda Sheen and Brad Cooper in the morning, with Malcolm Ashford, Brenda Sheen and possibly Barry in the afternoon.


We need everyone to take a couple of shifts over the next four weekends, a minimum of two persons per location is required, three Rotarians is preferable. Jim Burnett has appealed to Rotarians to take at least 10 calendars, preferable 20 calendars and use them as Christmas gifts, or sell them to friends.   


Thom Wright will be making up another display stand that can be used for Ladner Calendar Sales.
 The Calendar Committee has done a fantastic job and we have four weekends to sell the calendars out.  John Thomas has recommended we contact Tsawwassen Club so our Calendar rep will have some time at their Dec 1 meeting (they are having a club assembly on Nov 24).  Lani Jo Weaver and Barry Madden will contact the North Delta Club (Rotarian Lana Hart from North Delta has said she will help us again this year) and arrange to bring them calendars & make a sales pitch.  Brad Cooper has offered to represent us re Calendar Sales at the Ladner Business Association and the Chamber of Commerce.  We still need to contact the Scott Road Business Association and the Tsawwassen Business Association.  Jim Burnett will give John Thomas the information for DCTV Community Announcements as to the sales point locations for Calendar Sales

 

Ted Towers "Night at The Races", Fraser Downs, Cloverdale: Reminder that it is this Friday November 25. Tickets are now available at the Sgt At Arms desk for everyone that signed up, you are reminded to pay $25 per ticket when you receive your ticket.  Fraser Downs is naming one of the Races after Ted, Ted Towers Memorial Pace 2005.  Everyone attending from our club will be welcome to go down to have a group picture taken with the winning horse while the Ted Towers Memorial Blanket is presented to the jockey

 

The last meeting in November is our spousal luncheon being a fifth Tuesday; remember to bring your partner or spouse

 

It was announced the Tsawwassen Rotary breakfast meetings costs are going up to $15.00 per meeting starting Dec 1

 

Red Nose Program for Delta/Richmond: Friday December 9 and Saturday December 17 have been chosen as Delta Rotary Nights for this anti drinking & driving program.  The Red Nose Program is registering volunteers from Rotary for both those evenings. Fri Night Social location being relocated to The Riverhouse Pub who are supporters of our Rotary Calendar.  It will still be at 5:00 pm for any one who wishes to wind up their week with other Rotarians

 

December 20 Rotary Celebration of Christmas Dinner Sign Up Sheet was passed around, we now have (25) persons registered to attend

 

The Ladner Club has sponsored Jody Akerman of the Delta Police Force to take part in the Specialized GSE team going to Los Angeles next spring.  She is part of the Law Enforcement group from our District; there are two RCMP officers and two municipal officers.
