400 million people in the world can’t afford or do not have access to basic health care. Disease results in pain and poverty for millions worldwide. That’s why treating and preventing disease is so important to Rotary as one of its seven areas of focus.

In Nigeria, it’s extremely difficult to receive healthcare due to the lack of professionals in the area and the difficulty of traveling to local facilities. Rotary members in Sebastopol, CA, USA, and Dr. James K. Gude stepped in as part of a larger effort to supply remote areas with telemedicine, healthcare, and solutions from a distance.

Telemedicine brings doctors and patients together virtually to ensure that anybody who needs medical help will receive it.

Another core Rotary focus as part of disease fighting is providing clean water to communities without the proper resources.
