Rotary TV Auction 2007 Update
As always, there are some changes with our Rotary TV Auction this year. Some of the same challenges remain the same. Getting Rotarians to solicit Auction Items has always been difficult. It gets done but usually at the last minute. And this year, the last minute is sooner that ever before. We do not have the use of the warehouse space at Delta Cable so that changes things including our early deadline of September 30.
Auction Sunday will also take place off site. We are currently in discussion with Sean Hodgins of Century Holdings for a suitable space for storage, display and picture taking, sales/pickup for the public on Sunday Nov 4. This space will need to be secure with telephone access and internet access desired. If anyone has a similar type space available, please advise Mike Storey. Your firm will be promoted through out the auction if you are able to provide this type of space at Rotary rate (free).
The North Delta Rotary Club has opted out of the auction this year even though we have the support of many individual North Delta Rotarians. Bob Attfield of North Delta has remained on the Auction Committee. There are several North Delta Rotarians who willl be donating auction items and will still have volunteer help from many of the North Delta Rotarians, even though their club will not be sharing in the proceeds this year.
Your auction committee is working on integrating "on line" bidding for those Rotarians and Rotarian families and Sponsoring Merchants that are out of the Delta Cable broadcast area. We will only integrate "on line" bidding if it can be made fair and equal to both the telephone bidders and on line bidders.
Response with auction items has been slow and we had originally planned to have all auction items (or at least the paperwork) in on or before Sept 30. Our club has only received two items as of Sept 25 with pledges of six other items. Your auction committee needs everyone to return to the same merchants as last year and ask for their support again this year. Then tackle a few more merchants and see if everyone can bring in one or two more items.
Graham is leaving town and needs someone to approach Westham Island Herb Farm, Westham Island Estate Winery and Ladner Reach Properties Ltd on River Road West (see Mike). These merchants have always supported our Rotary TV Auction and we only need to ask. Please call Mike Storey at 830-1310 or email him at mike@idealdoor.ca to advise we have a volunteer to contact these three supporting merchants.
Last year, we only had 14 Ladner Rotarians bring in Auction Items from local merchants. We need everyone in the club to contact merchants and make a request. Please contact Mike Storey, there are several merchant names that have supported our Auction in years past, we only need to contact them.
With only two Rotary Clubs taking part, we need a big push this week. A decision will be made by Oct 5 based on the success we have in acquiring auction items. We cannot hold the auction unless we have a substantial number of quality items. We are looking for items that with a value of $100 or more. Items valued under $100 will be grouped with other items and will be auctioned off as part of a package.
We are asking Rotarians to help by doing their best to bring in as many quality Auction Items as possible. We need volunteers to help us organize the auction and update the website prior to Auction Weekend. And to keep your calendar free for November 3 and possibly November 4 so you can help on Auction Weekend.

This is your auction and gives our Rotary Club a chance to give our message to the public. This will be the 17th year for this Rotary TV Auction. Our Rotary TV Auction has raised over $750,000 and the Rotary Clubs of Delta have used these unrestricted funds for any Community projects they wanted to finance. Our calendar funds are directed to only approved recipients. Very few Rotary Clubs have the opportunity to hold a televised auction and we can't let this opportunity slip by. If we do not cotinue with this auction, other community service organizations will step forward and take our place. This Rotary TV Auction gives us a voice for a complete afternoon and evening on local cable and gives us the chance to tell our Rotary story. The studio space and professionals and cable volunteers make this possible. Please do your part to make it work
