Rotary was alive with the sound of music

At our regular meeting on Tuesday August 21st those in attendance were regaled to a beautiful impromptu rendition of the Pachebel Canon by Alana Hunter  and Nicole Au Yeung.  Alana, Nicole and Lisa Wang are members of the Delta Youth Orchestra in Ladner. They recently attended the San Diego Rotary Music Camp sponsored by the Ladner Rotary Club. Nicole and Alana reported on their experiences while at the camp. It is an initiative that our Club will considering sponsoring in the future.

This program allows students to experience new cultures and make new friends, planting the seeds for greater international understanding. Rotary District 5340 (Southern California) MusiCamp International Youth Exchange is unique in three respects:

1. It was the first music-based summer camp exchange program in Rotary,
2. It is the only youth exchange program conducted in partnership with a non-Rotary organization (San Diego Youth Symphony & Conservatory) and
3. It is the only camp where students must demonstrate a high skill level to participate.

 

MusiCamp brought highly talented musicians from Canada, Czech Republic, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Japan Israel, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and United Kingdom to San Diego where they joined with San Diego Youth Symphony members for two weeks of intense rehearsals, performance at symphony and chamber music events and a week touring Southern California theme parks and local beaches and other points of interest.
