Rotary Water Park - Ladner?
Proposed major Rotary project in Ladner
On April 29, 2014, Mel Baly gave the club an overview of a proposed new children’s water park in Ladner that the club may take on as a major project with the Corp of Delta and other partners. The project could cost up to $500,000.00. The club would raise $75,000.00 and the balance would come from the city and a variety of grants. There would be a significant level of contributions in kind and hands on labour.
The project would be located in Ladner at Memorial Park (47th Avenue and Garry Street). The current children’s playground was installed in 2002 and 2003. It is showing its age.
One issue is naming the new park. The current water park is sponsored by the Kinsman. They retain the naming rights. This issue needs to be resolved. Mel and the club board are looking for comments, views and ideas from members.
Many of the children's play areas and water works would have a farming theme to reflect Delta's agricultural history. The park based on the current diagram would not reflect the fishing or shipping on the Fraser river.
