A great presentation and thank you from Alex Gaio

Our speaker on July 3 was Alex Gaio who was sponsored by the RC of Ladner to attend RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) in April at Camp Jubilee on Indian Arm.

RYLA is Rotary's leadership training program for young people. District 5040 sponsors’ three RYLA camps Metro Vancouver, Prince George and Terrace each focused on a different age group.

RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth, and aims to:

Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth
Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders
Encourage leadership of youth by youth
Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities

Alex graduated from DHS in September and plans to attend Langara College in computer science. He is a member of Toast Master (is showed!) and recipient of the Duke of Edinburgh award as an air cadet.

He explained that at RYLA the 80 participants including 18 Rotary Exchange Students from around the world focused on topics such as Ethics, 4-Way Test, team building, leadership styles and interpersonal skills. The session leaders were Rotarians and instructors from universities.
