Origins of The Traveling Wilburys

Even though some of the original Wilburys have passed away, the Wilburys of Ladner Rotary continue on and help do our best to raise funds to help End Breast Cancer.

The Traveling Wilburys Volume One is the best record of its kind ever made. Then again, it's also the only record of its kind ever made. A low-key masterpiece, Volume One marks the auspicious debut of the Traveling Wilburys - Lucky Wilbury (a.k.a. Bob Dylan), Nelson Wilbury (George Harrison), Lefty Wilbury (Roy Orbison), Otis Wilbury (Jeff Lynne) and Charlie T. Jr. (Tom Petty).

"The original Wilburys were a stationary people who, realizing that their civilization could not stand still for ever, began to go for short walks - not the 'traveling' as we now know it, but certainly as far as the corner and back." Wilburys are now known for walking amazing distances and there has been at least one Wilbury in each Weekend to End Breast Cancer in Vancouver.

Introducing the two newest members, Barney Wilbury (Kathy Storey) and Bud Wilbury (Mike Storey). Barney Wilbury walked in the rain in the 2004 Weekend, falling to injury on a rain soaked path. A broken bone in her foot ended her weekend early but Barney raised a lot of money and started a tradition. Bud Wilbury was inspired and took Barney's place for the next two years enjoying sunny weekends in 2005 and 2006.

2007 finds both Barney and Bud Wilbury taking part in the Walk and forming the first official Traveling Wilburys Team.

Please help support our Walk this year. Too many have suffered from this dreaded disease. We invite all other Wilburys, near and distant relatives, in-laws and out-laws, friends & aquaitances to join us this August and help in the fight to End Breast Cancer.
