Donny van Dyk started as the new City Manager at the City of Delta on September 18th, replacing Sean McGill who retired at the end of August. He came to his position over five years as City Manager for the City of Penticton, where he led the City through a sustained period of planned growth, instituted new climate initiatives, and grew a provincially renowned Community Safety Officer team and did so through wildfires, floods, and a pandemic. 
 
Prior to serving the City of Penticton Mr. van Dyk worked in various roles in community and Indigenous relations, government affairs, and finance at Enbridge. Prior to joining Enbridge, Mr. van Dyk served in the BC municipal public sector where he held the position of Chief Administrative Officer for the District of New Hazelton. 
 
Originally from Terrace, BC, Mr. van Dyk is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds degrees from the University of Victoria (Masters in Public Administration) and the University of Northern British Columbia (Bachelor of Commerce), as well as a diploma from Coast Mountain College (Business Administration). 
 
The BC Government has ordered cities across the province to update their Official Community Plans (OCP) to expedite the addition of more housing. Delta has set a five-year target of 3,607 net new housing units.
 
The City of Delta is updating its Official Community Plan (OCP), replacing the current plan established in 1985 and laying the groundwork to welcome an estimated 31,000 new residents over the next 20 years, with public consultation as part of the process
