Waterfront Marina Garden Estates Plan

Ken Stinson, who has been directing development for the Chan family's Waterfront Marina Garden Estates for the past 30 years presented plans for the next and perhaps final phase of development for the housing, marina and golf course complex in the Ladner area, at the Ladner Rotary Club lunch meeting on August 24.

Joined by Grace Bukowsky, General Manager, Operations for the Captain's Cove Marina & Pub, Ken explained plans to develop the waterfront area adjacent to the marina. Instead of a hotel planned earlier for this phase the development will instead build a seniors' residence.

Captain's Cove Marina is a private corporation established in 1978 in Ladner when Captain's Cove Marina Development Group acquired a 217 acre property on an arm of the Fraser River. It has since been zoned and developed as a golf course, expanded marina and residential area, with 500 residential units of more than 1000 units now completed since the first phase began in 1987. The current plans for the waterfront area are included in Phases 6 and 7.

The environment is a very important part of this project, only minutes from the centre of Ladner. This is why every phase of the development was being carefully designed and monitored by highly qualified and talented professionals. The primary goal is to preserve the nearby wetland which is home to very valuable fish and wildlife habitat. In 1992, Fraser River Estuary Management Program awarded Captain's Cove Marina with a development award recognizing the environmentally sustainable design of the Marina Garden Estates Project.
