Ladner Rotary members sported bright red ponchos with the words “End Polio Now” at their meeting on October 21, 2014.

The event was to bring attention to the world wide campaign to eradicate polio in the last remaining countries. October 24, 2014 has been declared World Polio Day by the WHO (World Health Organization). Rotary made polio eradication its top philanthropic goal in 1985. Rotary has contributed more than US$1.3 billion and countless hours of volunteer service to ending polio. This includes more than 26 million dollars contributed by the more than 25,000 members of Rotary clubs in Canada.

The three clubs in Delta have contributed more than $200,000 to the campaign. To date, more than 2.5 billion children have been immunized against the paralyzing and sometimes deadly poliovirus.
