Adopt a Village in Laos

The remote villages of Laos have never recovered from the ‘Secret’ war of the 1960′s and early 70’s. While rich in culture and tradition, their education, healthcare and hygiene conditions are severely lacking. The average lifespan is only 56 years and average age is only 20.8, caused by poor quality water, poor hygiene and general poverty.

Steve Rutlledge, President of Adopt a Village in Laos was the speaker at the Rotary Club of Ladner on September 9, 2014. Steve is a member of the Rotary Club of Whidby, Ontario.

A positive difference has been made in the lives of thousands of villagers. The organization has completed over a dozen school projects, 5 water source projects bringing water to four villages and a hospital and have completed 14 toilet banks for schools and a village.

They have provided over 1377 water filter systems (8-11,000 people), along with critical hygiene training for families, schools and hospitals to promote a longer, healthier and happier life. Lots of bicycles were distributed to get even more kids to and from school and there were a number of smaller projects completed too.
