Chu's Digest - July 15, 2007
We had a small but energetic crowd for our Tuesday Jul 8 meeting. Bob McNary from Coquitlam Sunrise Club and a former recipient of Citizen of the Year Award by Coquitlam Chamber Commerce was our guest speaker. Bob shared with us his knowledge about Special Olympics and then demonstrated his skill as an auctioneer following his speech.
John Thomas just became grandfather for the third time. The baby girl was pre-mature at 3.5 lbs. but mother and daughter appeared to be doing well. John Thomas also spoke eloquently on the importance for each of us to focus on bring in one or two more sponsors for the Calendar Lottery to help Chair Lynn Cameron filling all 60 sponsor spots. We still need almost twenty sponsors.
Both Ron Bollen and Clarke Wise were there. They thanked me for the bulletins I printed for them. It was I who needed to thank them for reading them. I took some digital pics of Tracy, Marjorie, Melissa, Denis, Ron and Michael Cruise for our Roster Booklet.
Marjorie Higginson shared some ideas about the possibilities of bring more stuffs to Delta Secondary and raising the profile of Rotary and our club within the school community. I can't wait for September when she can get our programs going in the school.
Joyce bought the Rotary 2007-2008 RI Theme yellow tie and Michael Cruise bought the oil painting during our impromtu auction conducted by guest speaker Bob McNary on July 10. Thank you for your support.
On Saturday evening, I attended a fireside/fellowship dinner party of Vancouver Centennial at President Kenneth Liu's home in Richmond. About half of the seventeen members were there with their spouses. A good time was had by all. I understand this club does this almost every month at a different member's home. Irene Forcier, our Chair for the 50th Anniversary Celebration, has big plans to coordinate a series of events throughout the year to boost the fun factor.
