A Celebration of Claudette's life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, 4755 Arthur Drive, Ladner, BC on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.

March 9, 1942 - January 6, 2015

Claudette passed peacefully at home, with her loving husband and family by her side on Tuesday evening, January 6, 2015 after a recurrence of pancreatic cancer. Claudette was born on March 9, 1942 in Fort McMurray, Alberta, the daughter of Vera and Ed Williams. As the daughter of an early CP Airlines station agent, her childhood years were spent in a number of locations in Western Canada. In 1952 her family decided to leave the wayward ways of aviation and the family moved to Burnaby, BC where Claudette graduated from Burnaby South in 1960. After high school, Claudette entered the Royal Columbian Nursing School, graduating in 1964 as a Registered Nurse, a career which allowed her to share her empathy for everyone she met. As an RN, she worked in Prince George, Surrey Memorial and Richmond General, eventually becoming a home care nurse. She married Walt Hayward on September 18, 1965 and had three children. Claudette lived life to the fullest sharing a love for family, friends and community. She took being a member of the community seriously. Combining her experience as a home care nurse with her ability to bring people together, she was involved in the establishment of the Parish health ministry at All Saints Anglican Church. In recognition of this service she recently received the "The Order of the Diocese of New Westminster" from Bishop Melissa. With her husband Walt, she was also involved with the Rotary Club of Ladner; and held many positions on various Boards including the Delta Museum and Archives, including holding the position of President; the Delta Police Board for 9 years; the Chaplaincy Committee of the Delta Police Department; the Delta Community and Living Society; among many other local organizations. Claudette has always enjoyed travelling throughout the world with Walt, and has had the good fortune of travelling to countless countries throughout the world by car, train, air and of course her favourite mode of transportation "Holland America" cruise ships. She always made new friends on her travels. Claudette's last adventure was a fun trip to Newfoundland with Walt. Claudette will be deeply missed by all of her family and those who have had the good fortune to have met her. We will always remember Claudette by the warm smile she greeted everyone, her positive outlook on life and that she was always there for those who needed support. Claudette is survived by her husband Walt; her three children: Rod (Bonnie), Alexis, Andrea (Steve); her five grandchildren: Alek, Lara, Nick, Jessica and Rhys; her sister Eileen (Charlie); and a number of relatives and close friends. We are thankful and appreciative of the great love, care and support that she received during the latest journey of her life from her family, Church, Hospice, Rotary, friends and relatives.

A Celebration of Claudette's life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, 4755 Arthur Drive, Ladner, BC on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to All Saints Anglican Church in Ladner.
