In the middle of this year's international Immunization Week, polio survivor, Ann Lee Hussey spoke by Zoom to Ladner Rotary members about her passion for the global campaign to rid the world of polio, started by Rotary 35 years ago.
A member of the Casco Bay Rotary Club in Portland, Maine, Ann Lee shares Rotary International’s vision for a polio-free world and has shared her story and passion for polio eradication around the world, at numerous District Conferences, Zone Institutes, PETS, Foundation Seminars, and club meetings.Ann Lee joined Rotary in 2002 and immediately became involved. She has traveled twice to Venezuela to assist children in receiving surgeries for cleft lip and cleft palate. But her real mark has been her travel to India, Nigeria, Niger, Egypt, Bangladesh, Mali, Chad, Pakistan, and Madagascar to lead more than 30 Rotary Polio immunization volunteer teams.
In addition to that action in the field, she has served as an advisor to the International PolioPlus Committee. She served as Rotary District 7780 Governor in 2010-2011.
She is a Veterinary Technician who owns, with her Rotarian husband, a veterinary clinic in Rollinsford, New Hampshire.
Joining the club meeting were Rotary District 5040 Governor Bala Naidoo, Ann Lee Hussey and Marty Peak Helman, in Maine, Gail McEwan, Leslie Abramson and John Charbonneau of the Tsawwassen club, and Ladner Rotarian Patricio Ramirez from Santiago, Chile.
