People can share information anonymously about criminal activity through Crime Stoppers, which is committed to engaging the public to reduce, prevent, and solve crime in our communities. Crime Stoppers delivers that anonymous information to the appropriate law enforcement agency, so that a crime – or potential crime – can be solved. Crime Stoppers chapters throughout BC to engage the public to share information anonymously about criminal activity. It is affiliated with the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association and Crime Stoppers International forming a global network to disrupt crime.
Anissa Lau is a graduate of Douglas College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Applied Criminology, specializing in Crime Analysis and Prevention. Anissa became involved with Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers in 2017 as a volunteer and has since obtained a position as the Outreach and Event Coordinator. In her spare time, she has volunteered with Collingwood Community Policing, Burnaby Neighbourhood House and the Downtown Eastside Women’s Shelter. She is passionate about helping others by creating awareness of the challenges faced within our communities and how we can collectively make a difference.The Crime Stoppers program was the brainchild of Canadian-born Detective Greg MacAleese in Albuquerque New Mexico in 1976. There are now more than 1700 Crime Stoppers programs worldwide in 32 countries.
The first Crime Stoppers chapter was established in BC in 1982. BC Crime Stoppers is an independent not-for-profit registered charity representing the independent community-based chapters throughout BC.
