Don died on June 1 - a great Rotarian, a great friend
Remembering Don Burkett’s unexpected death on June 1 was a jolt to every member of the Rotary Club of Ladner and the community of South Delta.
Don was passionate about the environment. He lived the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” in his commitment to eradicate the evasive weed Spartina from Boundary Bay. He led the Rotary Club of Ladner in the project. His “yellow fish” painting at storm sewers was another project he led for the club.
Anyone who worked with Don as he hiked across Boundary Bay looking for Spartina found it a challenge to keep up with him.
He was a professional musician, playing bass and guitar for the Bossa Boys.
Dr. Don Burkett graduated with clinical honours from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto in 1982, after first attending Douglas College and UBC. Dr. Burkett returned to his home town of Tsawwassen after graduation and practiced in South Delta.
Don’s dog Daisy was with him everywhere, at his office and his many trips across Boundary Bay.
Don's humour and Hawaiian shirts will be missed by all.
