South Fraser Perimeter Road close to being finished

 

Geoff Freer is Executive Director of the $3  billion Gateway Program of new roads, highways and bridges in the Lower Mainland. The $1 billion South Fraser Perimeter Road is a major element in that program.

The goals of the project include free-flowing route south of the Fraser River, reduced travel times and a major trade gateway. The new highway is 40 km in length and eliminates all at grade rail crossings. Deltaport to Hwy 1 will be less than 30 minutes travel time.  There are 5 intersections on Hwy 10 with lights, there will be 5 on the new highway. There have been more than 7000 new long term jobs created by the highway construction.

 

Traffic from Tsawwassen, both local and ferry, will be directed off Highway 17 onto Highway 99 to access the Massey Tunnel.  Local traffic for Ladner will take an exit off the highway and go onto the renamed Highway 17A.

 

There have been several landfill closures and cleanups as part of the construction, new storm water management, new farm traffic improvements in Delta and new irrigation systems.

 

Geoff has more than 30 years of diverse leadership and project management experience across a number of public and private sectors in Canada, including mining and minerals, transportation, forestry, environment, land use and adventure tourism. As a former Assistant Deputy Minister responsible for the Mining and Mineral Division of the British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources, Geoff was known as a problem solver and a leader in supporting the industry and communities across the Province. He was Vice President of Venue Construction for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
